Early days of snowboarding Don’t be fooled by our name, Ski Haus is many things to many people! You’ve probably seen our commercials stating just that… and it’s so true. Ski Haus is much more than just Skis. Among other things, we’ve been specializing in snowboards since the Steamboat Ski Resort first allowed snowboarders to ride the lifts way back in 1987 (that’s 25 years for those of you keeping track)!

We have been there as the sport has evolved from wooden decks with what can only be described as “waterski-style” bindings to the highly advanced boards, boots, and bindings of today.

As snowboarding has matured as a sport, and popularity has grown among all types of riders, the equipment has become much more specialized. With so many choices out there it’s important to have someone who can point you in the right direction. At Ski Haus, we have a dedicated staff of snowboarders who are here to answer all of your questions and help you determine what equipment will work best for you. We ride what we sell. If you find it at Ski Haus, it’s for good reason. We carry what we do because it’s what we choose to ride ourselves!

Ski Haus employee, Logan Ammon is all about the 2012 Turbo Dream from K2. He has a quiver of decks, but loves the versatility of the Turbo Dream making it his go-to ride this season. The All-Terrain Rocker aims to please giving the board a playful feel at slower speeds and while making park laps without sacrificing the all-important edge hold he requires when testing the speed limit. With a setback stance, medium rise through the tip, and a lower rise in the tail, Logan enjoys effortless turns on hardpack and plenty of float in the Champagne Pow we’re all praying for. Harshmellow dampening fights off fatigue-inducing vibration and a Carbon-Web inlay gives the Turbo Dream that trampoline pop Logan can’t live without!

Stop by the ‘Haus today to chat with Logan or one of our other snowboard experts and allow us the opportunity to get you set up with the best gear, the best fit, and the best day on the hill! (Yes, that’s Logan in the photos. No, we didn’t ask him for those shots… I think they came from his private collection).

Jones Flagship
Jones Flagship
The wait is finally over… The much anticipated 2012 Jones Flagship has arrived at the ‘Haus. We currently have all sizes of the Ultimate Fall-Line Weapon in stock and waiting just for you!

This is the go-to freeride board for winter seasons such as we’re experiencing this year in Steamboat Springs. While we patiently wait for the arrival of all that Champagne pow we know and love, the Flagship keeps us smiling by providing a ride that is just as confident on the bulletproof as it is in the deep.

Jeremy Jones designed this board with the understanding that big mountain freeriding demands both power and agility. The Flagship defines that balance and is the ultimate board for riders who want to shred like a rhino yet leap like a gazelle. They don’t call it the Fall-Line Weapon just because it sounds cool, Mr. Jones and his crew battle-tested the Flagship for unmatched performance from the first jump turn to the last straight-line runout.

Mellow Magne-Traction keeps the Flagship solid on ice, while the blunt nose, directional rocker, and camber underfoot deliver the float and stability necessary for bombing any line, any time. This incredible board knows no speed limit and is undoubtedly one of the most confidence inspiring freeride snowboards ever produced. The Flagship is available in very limited quantities, so get to the 'Haus and get yours before it's gone!

Burton Feelgood
2012 Burton Feelgood - Updated for 2012
T
he Feelgood from Burton continues to be one of our most popular women’s boards here at the ‘Haus. Now available with the Flying V bend, this all-mountain ripper satisfies by blending the snappy suspension of camber with the effortless float and control of rocker.

Ultra-nimble and responsive, the Feelgood helps you get after it on the mountain like never before thanks to a healthy dose of the latest high-tech features. The Channel mounting system allows you to dial in your stance width and angles without restriction, Pro Tip tapered tip and tail reduces swing weight for greater mobility, and Infinite Ride ensures your new board will ride equally well on day 100 as it did on day 1.

Don’t forget, Burton isn’t new to building boards, so making it softer and painting it pink doesn’t cut it for them. With that in mind, they have added to the Feelgood the new True Flex Super Fly 2 core. True Flex sets the new standard in women’s hardgoods by optimizing board design to match the geometry and finesse of female riders. Torsional softness underfoot transitions to stabilizing zones between and outside your feet. The result is improved stability, effortless edge control, and energized pop in the tip and tail. For everything from laid-back laps to high-speed attacks this unique board has the whole mountain covered!

Spark Snowboard Bindings Spark Blaze and Burner Bindings
As more and more backcountry enthusiasts discover the benefits of splitboarding and the popularity continues to grow, we see new products emerge. Few of these have had a larger impact than the splitboard-specific binding. Spark R&D offers a Voile Interface-compatible binding that eliminates the issues typically caused by using your “resort bindings” on your splitboard. By integrating the slider track into the binding baseplate you save weight, allow your binding to ride closer to your deck, and overall simplify your setup. The Blaze and Burner models are in stock now at Ski Haus in both the standard and LT versions. When you elect to upgrade to the LT model you get an improved touring bracket with self-lubricating bushings which drastically reduce wear and thus allow the use of 7075 aluminum pins. The aluminum pins are half the weight of the standard pins, shaving an additional 100g off the setup. Stop by the ‘Haus today to check out the latest Spark R&D products or take a set of our demo Blaze bindings for a test drive!

Keeping Your Board Tuned and Riding Smooth
When the time comes to look into buying a new board there are a few things people don't consider. After spending some time in the shop and learning different aspects of tuning my snowboard, I quickly found out that every snowboard tunes differently. Some snowboards tune better than others. There are two different types of snowboard bases: a sintered and extruded base. A sintered base is the better of the two. A sintered snowboard tunes, holds wax better, and is easier to repair.

When giving structure to the base of a snowboard with a base grinder or stone it's important to make the board flat as possible. The stone evenly produces the boards “structure,” giving it the finish it needs to optimally receive the wax and reduce friction between base and snow. Once that is done we change machines and sharpen and polish the edges. Our edging machine is ceramic and lays the perfect angle of edge.

Lastly applying the right temperature wax and the proper application of the wax is important. My snowboard receives a better tune down at the shop than if I were to do it myself. At the shop we have the best equipment and personnel to apply the “perfect” tune. Among the top snowboards that produce a better tune are Burton, Jones, Salomon and K2.
